Advice:- How to get your phone back from your parents

How to Get Your Phone Back

Three Methods:

Whether your phone was confiscated by your parents, stolen by a stranger, or simply went missing, if you handle the situation with patience and maturity, you could get your phone back sooner than you think. If your parents have your phone, tell them that you are sorry for how you have upset them, and show them you mean it by adhering to their advice without complaint or pushback. Approach your situation calmly, and you may just succeed.

Steps

Getting a Phone Back from Parents

  1. Apologize to your parents sincerely.Tell them how sorry you are for your wrongdoing. This might not work, but it's certainly worth a try, especially if you have made a mistake you cannot correct. Tell them what you plan on doing differently in the future. Express yourself clearly and politely.
  2. Fix the problem. If they are trying to get you to clean your room, come home on time, or some other chore, find out what the issue it is and correct it. This will show your parents that you are sincerely sorry and are making active efforts to improve your behavior.
  3. Do something for them.If it is too late to correct the problem, try to make up for it. Clean a room and do a good job of it. Do your homework without complaining. Try to choose something to do that will demonstrate that you have learned your lesson.
  4. Give reasons for why you need your phone back.Communicate your needs, and tell them someone is texting you the math assignment or that you want to call a classmate for help. They might allow you to do this, but will take it back when you are done. Be patient and hope for the best.
    • Remind your parents that the phone is important for your safety. Ask them: What if they needed to reach you in an emergency?
  5. Ask them what is necessary to get your phone back, if they haven't told you. Then, do your best to comply with their requirements. Make suggestions as to how you can improve your behavior in the future if they do not have any ideas.
  6. Wait.If all else fails, wait it out. Let your friends know to contact you some other way instead. Your parents will be impressed by your patience and maturity, and you could get your phone back sooner than you expect.
    • Ask for a time limit on the punishment and ask to know when it is. Then, remind your parents when the time is up.

Retrieving a Stolen Phone

  1. Resist the urge to chase the thief down.If someone has stolen your phone, do not try to chase or follow them. You never know if they could be concealing a weapon. Simply contact the authorities as soon as you can so they can handle an escalated situation.
  2. Call the police.Let the local authorities know that your device has been stolen, and they may be able to get it back. It is best to let the professionals deal with stolen property, especially since you may be dealing with dangerous criminals. Respect the limits of the police, as they may not be able to recover your phone, but they will try their best.
  3. Alert your phone service provider. They can put a hold on your account so that the phone cannot be used under your name and funds. They may also be able to track your phone, depending on whether you have made use of applications such as "Find My Phone" and other location services.

Finding a Missing Phone

  1. Call your phone.Use another phone to dial your phone number. Surprisingly, if your phone is on, you may find that it isn't very far from you. Have a friend help you by going into various rooms to listen for the phone's ring or vibration.
  2. Retrace your steps.Try to remember where you last had the phone, and go back to the places you have recently been. If you had been at a bar the previous night, call the bar and ask about any recovered devices.
  3. Ask people you know.Somebody you know could have recognized the phone as yours and picked it up, or could have seen where you had been last using it. Sometimes, people even turn a lost phone over to police or security, so contact them to learn if they have received any phones. Check your nearest lost-and-found and ask the customer service employees at stores you may have recently visited.

My mom said she wants me to be more responsible to get my phone back. What can I do?
    Lorena Lease
    Community Answer
Find your mom when she's in a good mood. Make sure beforehand that the laundry is done, your room is clean and organized, and all your chores are finished. Then tell your mom that you did your chores and ask for your phone. Remember to say please. If she says no still, sit down and talk to her and ask her why she thinks you shouldn't get your phone back, then go from there.
    Thanks!
  • Question
Why should I be the one to apologize if I didn't do anything wrong?
    wikiHow Contributor
    Community Answer
Are you saying that your parents want you to apologize for something? If so, they obviously feel that you DID do something wrong. Sit down and calmly tell them you're having trouble understanding what it was, and listen when they explain it to you. Even if you still feel like you did nothing wrong, you can still apologize for upsetting them and you can still try not to do it again since you know they don't like it.
    Thanks!
  • Question
What do I do if I failed a test and they will only give me my phone back if I pass the test next time? The test only comes around once a year.
    wikiHow Contributor
    Community Answer
Promise that you will study hard and retake the test. Perhaps you could (calmly and respectfully) try to compromise. Maybe they could let you use the phone for an hour a day if you spend 2 hours a day studying? If they're still angry about you failing the test, wait a while for them to calm down before you try to negotiate.
    Thanks!
  • Question
I got an iPhone a week ago, and my parents hide it and don't let me use it other than when I really need it for schoolwork. How do I persuade them to let me use it full time and always keep it with me?
    wikiHow Contributor
    Community Answer
If they are footing the bill for the phone, they have the right to control how it is used. If not, then you probably should have discussed it with them before you spent all that money. Now all you can do is try to be as grown-up and responsible as possible and maybe that will convince them you are mature enough to handle a phone full time.
    Thanks!
  • Question
My parents take my phone when they go to work, and I take it back because I know where they hide it and they don't notice. Should I continue doing this?
    wikiHow Contributor
    Community Answer
It sounds like you are developing the bad traits of being sneaky and dishonest. Think long and hard about what kind of person you want to be. Your parents are probably trying to teach you how to be a good person. Are you proud of the way you behave?
    Thanks!
  • Question
What do I do if my mom took my phone from me just because she was mad at me, for no reason?
    wikiHow Contributor
    Community Answer
Moms never take phones for no reason. If your mom was mad, there was a reason. Perhaps you should humbly and politely ask what that reason was and see what you can do to make things right.
    Thanks!
  • Question
My dad took my iPhone away and gave me a flip phone because I called him stupid in a joking manner, but he took it very personally. He's really mad. How should I approach this?
    wikiHow Contributor
    Community Answer
You need to own up to your mistake. Calling him stupid was incredibly disrespectful and cruel, and you shouldn't say it even if you mean it as a joke. Promise you will never again call anyone stupid. Apologize sincerely for hurting his feelings and don't just do it in hopes of getting your iPhone, do it because it's the right thing to do.
    Thanks!
  • Question
What is wrong with me if I make the wrong choices without even knowing it?
    wikiHow Contributor
    Community Answer
There is nothing wrong with you. It's possible you are not taking all the facts or possible outcomes into consideration before choosing. What's important is to learn from your mistakes. And if you're not sure what to do in a particular situation, talk it over with someone wiser and more experienced.
    Thanks!

  • If your parents have your phone, do not try to go undercover and search for it because it will not work. If you do, your parents will soon find out that you are looking and they will likely keep your phone longer than they had planned.
  • To prevent this situation in the future, use the 'Find My Phone' application. There are applications you can download that allow you to find your phone should it go missing. Be sure that your location services are turned on for this application. This can be done under the 'Settings' feature of your phone.
  • Set a passcode for your phone. This will prevent potential thieves from unlocking the phone and accessing your contacts and other personal information. Choose a complex passcode; keep it to yourself and memorize it.
