Independence Day Special Rangoli Design 2018 #kolam
Rangoli designs for Independence day
Indian Independence was attained in 1947, when we were free from 200 years of slavery. The British were forced to leave the country and India slowly became democratic. In this article, we will go through some lovely Independence Day rangolis, which are pattern ideas to enhance our houses and offices on this special day. Rangoli making happens to be one of the most traditional and desired customs, which have been followed for years.
These include colorful patterns drawn on the floor for special occasions. Although they are more common for auspicious events, we’d also love you to indulge in the feeling of freedom.
Big rangoli with enhanced designs
Rangoli designs for ugadi festival
In the picture below, we see a big Independence Day rangoli which has been nicely bordered with flowers and leaves. The outermost layers have leaves, followed by the second layer with flowers. You should then make another layer like the one in yellow, or skip it and start off the blue shades. The middle portion has to be chalked out for the three colors of our Indian flag. After you have colored them, enhance with designs in white. You can choose them on your own by suiting your preference and ability.
Peacock shape and background with tri-colors
Independence Day rangoli should have aspects which relate to our nationality and indepence. Peacock is our national bird while the tri-colors represent the color of our flag. These aspects are perfect to make such designs. In the rangoli below, we see a pretty peacock rangoli which have been enhanced with the colors of our flag. The base color in blue chalks out the peacock shape and is then designs on the inside. The body of the bird has shades of brown and yellow as well, which further has a bird being set free from a cage. We see a woman joining hands on the opposite direction of the other minor design.
Dotted rangoli with floral patterns
Rangoli designs for welcome
Dotted rangolis are one of the easiest ways to draw easy rangoli patterns. In the design below, we see a floral pattern drawn on a hexagonal base of dotted rangoli. Every petal of the rangoli has been colored in the tri-color of our Indian flag. It also has the Ashok Chakra in the middle drawn in blue. Amusingly, every petal design looks like a flag which also has a stick. For the second layer of the rangoli, you make similar patterns. This would just take up some more space so that they fall between two petals each of the first layer.
Floral shaped tri-color design
This rangoli has all the three colors with blue in the middle, and the design takes up the shape of a flower. You have to chalk out the design layer by layer and then fill in the colors. Make a floral pattern in the middle and add green. Take two petals of these and then one petal for the next layer in white. Add the blue colors in small circular shapes. Add the final shade of petals in saffron or light orange. Finally, you can border it with marigold flowers to keep the design intact.
Lotus, peacock and flag design
Free hand rangoli designs
This rangoli includes not one, not two, but three symbols of our nationality! Lotus is the symbol of our national flower, while the other two have be mentioned before. All the three elements can be individually drawn or put together like we see the design below. As first you should draw the peacock which is overlapped by the lotus. The flag has been drawn above the peacock body and then followed by some more floral patterns the right side.
Peacock wings opening into the flag
This is an innovative design which includes a peacock and our national flag. It shows that the peacock drawn here has opened its wings and two sides of it have been drawn like our Indian flag. It also includes the original look of it, which is directly drawn after the shape of the body. Chalk out the design accordingly and then fill in with the colors. Apart from its significances, peacock rangolis are very pretty rangoli patterns for their beauty and our opportunity to play with different colors.
Dotted rangoli in rhombus base

Chalk out a rhombus shape in dotted base. Now make these four sided patterns with white. Make three layers of it so that you can put three different colors. Make sure that the shapes are uniform so that the design comes out neat. Color the middle with blue instead of black, like you see in the rangoli design. Blue would signify the Ashok Chakra.
Shape of the Earth, dove birds by the tricolors
This is an interesting rangoli pattern which includes the shapes of our world, dove birds and also the tricolors in a sash-like shape. Give a bright base like you see in shades of mauve and purple. Now drawn a circular pattern and add blue. Chalk out shapes to make countries and then draw the dove birds. These birds signify hope, peace, joy and love, and you too can add similar words over the tricolor when you make the sash-like design. Try to make it as neat as possible so you should go by your skills and comfort.
Intricacies in a rangoli pattern with floral base
Rangoli designs for dussehra
This rangoli design has to be drawn by someone who is highly skilled for these intricacies for a rangoli pattern. You might be able to do these with the help of rangoli instruments. These patterns have a background of different floral patterns in layers, and all of them have enhanced intricacies for the petal shapes. The core of the design is a white circular base, on which the Ashok Chakra has been drawn.
Peacock design with Gandhiji’s Wheel
This is a very beautiful peacock shaped rangoli, which has been enhanced by different designs in the tri-color shades. The colors of saffron, white and green has been added to the body of the peacock and they make internal intricacies in a big peacock pattern. Right in the stomach of the bird, we see a circular shape chalked out, which makes the entire Ashok Chakra. It is accompanied by a design of Gandhiji’s spinning wheel.
Circular rangoli pattern with shades of Indian flag
Rangoli designs for ganesh festival
This is a nice idea for making a rangoli. All you have to do is make outline for the base and then add colors which are related to our national flag. You can take the initial tips from the picture below, and then enhance on your own. This alternatively means that you can make your own shapes within the circular pattern. You just have to make sure that the rangoli looks neat and the colors are appropriately added.
Shapes and design with tri-color
Breaking the cliched rules which make you think of flags and peacocks only, you can make simpler and attractive designs and then fill it with the tri-colors of our flag. These could be flowers, people, balloons, butterflies, etc. like you see in the picture below. You can add your own ideas and make the Independence rangoli a little more eye-catchy and unique.
3D rangoli design
Rangoli designs for diwali
This is an innovative way to make a rangoli design. The shapes of the design are easy to do but what gives it the 3D effect is the way the colors have been placed! You have to minutely follow the detailing of the shapes and get the accurates colors placed where they been alloted, to make the look come out appropriately. These have two shades off all the colors you see on the Indian flag and have been wittily designed to make a mark!
Finally, we have got another innovative idea to make an Indepence rangoli. These would include natural elements which have similar colors to those of the Indian flag. The picture below has a peacock shape, but you can change it to something your like. The easiest thing would be to make an Indian flag itself. Simply have the design chalked out as the outline and then fill it in with the flowers and leaves that you have procured.
