Food trends to watch for in 2019
The Best Way to Eat in 2019? You Probably Already Know
1. Trim Portions
Instead of cutting out fat, slashing your sugar intake, or making any sweeping changes that are too hard to maintain, just try to eat less than you’re eating now. I know that sounds easier said than done, but you’ll soon find that half a cookie tastes just as good as a whole one, and it’s half the calories, sugar, and fat. You’ll naturally reduce your intake (and your weight) without feeling deprived.
2. Make Meat a Side Dish
If plant proteins like beans, nuts, and tofu don’t seem “main dish” enough for you, then at least make meat and animal proteins look more like a side dish or topping than having them take up most of the real estate on the plate.
3. Bring Life to Veggies
I’m pretty certain that this is not the first time you’ve been told to eat more vegetables. If you're one of those people that claims to not “like” vegetables, jazz them up with your favorite spices and seasonings to bring pleasing flavors to your palate. (And be honest: How many veggies have you said you didn’t “like” without ever tasting them?)
4. Shop Smart
If you buy the same old thing every time you go to the store, you’ll end up with the same old body weight and same old health issues. Don’t be afraid to experiment and try something new, like an exotic fruit or veggie, or a new type of bean or whole wheat pasta. Take the time, even if it’s just once a week, to compare food labels and look for hidden sources of sugar (dextrose, high fructose corn syrup, organic cane juice), and trans fats (hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated fats).
